John Knox used to speak about the “battle” In fact, it was the most-used word in his vocabulary. It is interesting to note that in the last 200 years Christians have thought little about “battle”. Perhaps this is because they bought into the myth of neutrality and embraced the idea of “no conflict”. But what would Jesus do? Jesus called the apostate leaders “blind guides“, “blind men“, “hypocrites“, “you serpents, you brood of vipers“, and “blind fools!”
Did Jesus shrink from conflict? What would he do when faced with falsehood? He would recognize the battle for truth. Jesus saw battle lines and fought (and died) on them. His battle lines were those of truth. They should be ours as well. Jude helps us by outlining three basic battles in the Christian life and in the life of the Christian church.
